Ruth's Art Journal
My love of drawing and painting motivated me to start this blog. This onsite journal is just a place for me to share my art and express my creative thoughts. I welcome other artist's thoughts and ideas, and I look forward to seeing where my art takes me next. "Art washes away from the soul the dirt of everyday life"-Pablo Picasso

Oil Painting
About a year ago I stopped painting with oil paints, and I decided to focus on water-based paints(acrylics and watercolors). Today I felt like painting with oils. I took them out of storage and painted an abstract. I guess you can say that I also had a sweet-tooth, because I also painted the cake. I think the cake painting needs some touch-ups, but I like the way the abstract came out.

Inchies
I created my first inchies this past week. I just recently heard about inchies. They are 1"x1" works of art. They can be painted, drawn, made of fabric or clay, or collaged. I painted these inchies with acrylics and added some paper touches for a swap on atcs for all.com

ATC Swap-Handpainted/Drawn Abstract/Whimsical Faces
I painted these abstract faces for a May 2011 artist trading card swap on atcs for all.com. Acrylic paints were used for each ATC. I really enjoyed working with abstract faces.

Monthly Art Challenge on My Other Blog
On my other blog, I started an art challenge. For April, artists are invited to create artwork that highlights the color red. It can involve any subject or medium. Here is what I have come up with.

Painting Portaits
I finished this painting last weekend. I enjoyed doing this watercolor. Painting portaits are always a challenge, but they are one of my favorite things to paint and draw. I also entered this painting into 2011 Project 365.
Art Journaling
I started an art journal book to add to my online journal. My first entry is a collage that was inspired by vintage photos. I combined them with torn paper and decorative buttons-more entries to come.
